about

Emlyn Johnson’s new album “And Beep Test” hits stores November 18th. Johnson describes “And Beep Test” as 'a trip down the shops for post-punk chops' where he met James Mannix (drums), Joel Robertson (guitar), and Tom Spall (bass). Recorded October 2020 at Milestone in the Adelaide Hills “And Beep Test” is a reminder of the sauced dancing done before spiced flu cocked its nasty head and spat.

‘The label wanted me to hold off on the release until next year but I’m done with the bastard,’ Johnson says. ‘I wanted an album where all songs under 150 secs were a success.'

On that trolley “And Beep Test” rolls 12 punchy porkbarrels down to market and from opener “Turbo Chicken” to closer “Shed” the album holds no back. Joel Robertson dazzles on wonky brushy left-handed jangle whilst James Mannix orates with a matching pair of hands. Meanwhile Tom Spall squeezes the truth out a fretless bass and thumping, swimming, running, and jumping, Johnson retrieves jewels from caves with pointed round bits and overtop stunning trouts we hear him moonbagging ledges of lyrics, holding a fly reel and singing ‘Walk along the railway, the trail is fragrant!’

The evolving, dynamic situation means the next dezvous and gigs for Emlyn Johnson And Beep Test are pencilled in for April 2026. But Strewth! Ready the dancin’ galahs and misty murrumbidgens in anticipisser! “And Beep Test” is a ding-ding-dong!
